Take a tour of this adorable ocean-themed nursery! The blue theme was perfect for my baby boy, but ocean is also a great gender-neutral theme.
When I found out I was having a boy, I worried I wouldn’t know what to do. I thought it would be less fun. I didn’t know how I’d feel about a little boy when I already love my little girl so much. I thought I’d be squirted with pee in my face every day.
BOY was I wrong! I should have known when my friend (who also has a daughter and a younger son) told me, “You know how you said your daughter and her dad have a special bond? It’s the same with a mother and son.” She was absolutely right. And I never had a NICU baby before…that brought out fierce Mama Bear in me like never before (but that’s a story for another time).
What surprised me even more was how I enjoy picking out boy clothes as much as I have girl clothes. And any kind of new territory expands creativity…I never would have made the crochet baby sea turtle blanket if I had another girl. I even consider it to be my greatest artistic accomplishment to date!
I also crocheted a mood octopus with this YouTube tutorial.
And I had just as much fun decorating the nursery the second time around. I already had a crib, changing table, storage baskets, diaper genie, and rocking chair, so that let me focus on the fun decorations. I wanted to repaint the green walls blue, but it ended up looking nice with all the ocean-blue elements. I decorated with…
DIY jellyfish light
and Fishing Net decoration (from Amazon)
Giant Plush Octopus
(found it in the Walmart seasonal section for Valentine’s Day)
3D ocean-themed shower curtain (for a wall mural, stuck on with Command strips)
and DIY mobile (ship wheel from Amazon, Christmas ball ornaments, bath toys from Target)
Printed curtains (sewed from a tablecloth from Amazon)
Clownfish Nightlight (from Amazon)
‘Seas the Day’ crib sheet (Target)
Sea turtle rug (I still need to buy this from Expressions Catalog)
Squirt (baby sea turtle from Finding Nemo) plush from eBay (and Nemo toy from a Happy Meal)
Beachy name sign (Hobby Lobby wooden frame, taupe-colored grout, sea glass and shells)
Whale cross-stitch (a sweet & beautiful handmade gift from my friend)
Sea turtle scarf (for chair decor, from Dollar Tree)
Which is your favorite part? Are you doing an ocean theme too? Let me know with a comment and happy nesting!
