Forget-Me-Not Beaded Necklace

Forget-Me-Not Beaded Necklace Feature Image 400px

My favorite flower is the forget-me-not. I have always loved tiny things, blue is the rarest color in nature, and I love what they represent, and to me it’s a symbol of my mother since she grew up in Alaska where it is the state flower. When I lived in Oregon I’d find them growing along the canal and they are just so beautiful and lovely.

I always wanted to make a forget-me-not necklace but I just couldn’t figure out how, until I found this tutorial by Tereza at Potomac Beads. It works perfectly by disregarding the earring post parts and skipping the last set of beads on the front.

I had a hard time finding the right petal beads, but finally got the right kind from KraftikaShop on Etsy. They came in a pack of 50, so if it’s 5 flowers per necklace, it’s enough to make 2 necklaces.

I also had a hard time figuring out what color beads to use for the middle. I thought I wanted yellow like the flower, but then realized how beautiful GOLD looks!

This would also make a gorgeous cherry blossom necklace if you use light pink petal beads and do the full pattern. Choose your favorite color!

–Skip video from 6:21 – 6:50 as it is for the earring post.
Step 3 (@6:50): Rose Petal Beads & 15/0 Blue Seed Beads
Step 4 (@13:32 – 17:35): 11/0 Gold Seed Beads

Once you have completed a flower, make 4 more for a necklace of 5 flowers.

For the necklace strand, I used crystal bicone beads, some blue pearl beads, 11/0 crystal AB seed beeds, and the same 11/0 gold seed beads used on the flowers. I wanted some sparkle and was going for sort of a dewdrop effect.

I played with various combos and lengths until it looked how I liked. When you’re ready to add the flowers onto the strand, thread through an outer green 15/0 bead on the back of the flower.

It’s in the materials/supplies list, but make sure to use crimp covers! The crimps do not look good without them and are also too sharp on their own. Make it look gorgeous, and then it will be…unforgettable.
